What do you need help with?

Getting your coverage area right (and why it matters)

Your service area shapes which enquiries reach you. Set it around where you'd genuinely take work, and the enquiries that arrive are ones worth your time.

It's not only about distance. Some jobs are worth travelling further for because they're exactly the work you want. Getting your area right means thinking about fit and distance together, not just drawing a bigger or smaller circle.

In person

A service area is a radius around a location, either a postcode or a city, that marks where you're willing to work. Any enquiry inside that radius counts as "in range" when we match you. You need at least one, but can have more, for example a tight radius around your home base and a wider one for larger jobs.

How to set one up
  1. Go to Service Areas in your enquiry settings.
  2. Select Add a service area.
  3. Search for and select your anchor location: a postcode or a city.
  4. Choose a radius from the available distances.
  5. Save. Your new area is added alongside any existing ones and doesn't replace them.

Getting it right
  • Start with the work you'd say yes to. Base your area on where you'd genuinely take jobs, so fewer of the enquiries that reach you are ones you'd have to turn down.
  • Add a second area for work worth the travel. If the jobs you want most are further out, a wider area set up for those jobs lets you take them without stretching your main area.
  • Revisit it as your business changes. If you stop covering somewhere, update your area rather than declining enquiries from there one by one. If you get busier or quieter, you can upgrade or downgrade your plan to match your capacity.

Online

Some services can be delivered remotely as well as in person. The customer says which they need when they send their request. What you decide is whether you're open to online work for each service.

Turn this on in your enquiry settings when you're editing your services. It's separate from your service area. Once it's on, you can be matched with customers who want that service online, wherever they're located. If you offer a service both ways, set both.

Why this matters

Your service area decides how well the work that reaches you fits your business. Set it with care, and more of the enquiries that reach you are the kind of work you actually want to take on.
